“My parents and I immigrated to the U.S. when I was eight. We started with no support network, we struggled through poverty and loneliness, and we prevailed. I know without a doubt that I would not have the life I have today without the influence of caring, visionary public school teachers, counselors, and administrators along the way. I want to make a tangible, significant difference in public education, and in the lives of as many students as possible, as soon as possible.“
Kelun Zhang was recently appointed as director of planning for Rocketship Education, a national nonprofit elementary charter school network dedicated to eliminating the achievement gap. In this new role, Zhang owns and drives the strategic planning process around key organizational initiatives including evaluating expansion regions and performance management. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Zhang was a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group. There she advised clients on strategic and operational challenges in industries spanning technology, entertainment, retail, and non-profit. Previously, she was an analyst specializing in antitrust litigation at Cornerstone Research, a litigation and economic consulting firm. Zhang has been actively involved in education since college. She has interned with The Broad Foundation, The African Leadership Academy, and she taught summer school to elementary school-age students in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Zhang holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and East Asian studies from Yale University, a master’s degree in education from Stanford University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
